Presenting Our July Artist of the Month
Posted on | July 6, 2010 | No Comments
Long time members Marjorie Krutsch and Beverly Scott Walczak will be our featured artists for July.
Beverly Scott Walczak has always been drawn to art and showing her creative side. Raising a family and working in the corporate world, from which she retired in 2007, didn’t leave much time. Beverly took various classes throughout that time at the VMCA in Milwaukee, the Adler Center in Liberty-ville, and with local teaching artists, such as Jane Craner, and Suzie Hetzel. She also enjoys learning from various artists that teach workshops in Illinois and Arziona.
Beverly enjoys painting floral subjects, nature, and landscapes using watercolor the most, but also works in acrylics and oils. She has done several wall murals for private homes and area businesses. Beverly’s work is displayed in various private collections in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Arizona. In addition to being a member of The Antioch Fine Arts Foundation in Antioch, IL, Beverly is also a member of the Sedona Art Gallery in Arizona.
Marjorie Krutsch is a charter member of the Antioch Fine Arts Foundation as well as the Spring Grove Fine Arts Gallery. Marjie is a stained glass artisan and an accomplished oil painter and watercolorist. She studied with a well-known teacher, Joe Teresi, where she was encouraged to study the masters and practice by copying their work. Her bold knife strokes coupled with Rembrandt’s deep tones bring a richness of style and interest to her work.
Marjorie has been juried into the Woodstock show “Gallery in the Garden”, the Old Town Art Gallery in Spring Grove, the Lake Forest Art Show and most recently the University of Wisconsin at Park side. Marjie also had her work in the Members Exhibition 2010 of the College of Lake County Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art and currently has work in the gift shop and the College of Lake County.
Marjorie also teaches Stained Glass at her Studio on the Lake in Antioch under the name of The Glass Canvas, and has an online stained glass gallery. For more information about her classes, workshops and custom orders, contact Marjorie Krutsch at 847-502-8251, or at marjie@stainedglassbymarjorie.com.
Please join Bev and Marjie for their Gallery Opening on July 18th, from 1:00-3:30. There will be live music, snacks, and 20% of their sales will be donated to the Open Arms Mission’s food pantry. They will also have a free will offering box available to Open Arms in case people want to donate, but not buy art work. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match their donation to Open Arms.
Patty Rodgers and Roger Schule – AFAF’s June Artists

Patricia Rodgers on Patricia Rodgers:
My work is representational but fantastic. My source is the places and things I see around me from which I do sketches. In the studio, I enlarge the sketches onto canvas with pencil and ruler. The most important thing to me in a painting is composition and color. My color choices are vibrant and I work on them and change them until I reach a satisfactory combination. It becomes satisfactory when some colors appear to come forward and some recede, to aid in the feeling of three dimensional spaces. I want my images to be three dimensional and flat abstract at the same time. In this series I chose cityscapes or a combination of interiors and cityscapes because the cube like forms and hard edges lend themselves to the geometric shapes I like to use. I admire the late cubist work of Picasso and the work of the construc- tivists because of their use of ordinary things as subjects. When I am painting, the real place of the sketch is no longer important. The canvas becomes a world of my imagination and creativity. In this way I think the paintings have an unnatural, fantasy about them. See more of my work at the Gallery or go to my website.
Roger Shule has been an art educator for 34 years and recognized as an artistically gifted person since early childhood. The bulk of his work is representational and executed in a variety of mediums. His subject matter consists of barns, farm scenes, vacation locations, local scenes, floral arrangements as well as paintings and 3D art based on matchbook art from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. Roger is past AFAF President and an irreplaceable member of the Antioch Fine Arts Foundation. Learn more about Roger and his art at his website.
Roger’s and Patricia’s show will run the entire month of June at The Gallery, located at 983 Main Street, downtown Antioch , Illinois. For more information about the gallery, call 847-838-2274 during business hours: Th/Fr/Sa 10-4pm , Su 12-4pm.
Meet Mary!

Artist Mary Telfer (www.telfleur.com) will demonstrate how she paints a
close up view of a flower with Richeson Oil paints (the Shiva series) at the AFAF
May meeting. She’ll also talk about how to mix natural greens.

in the 1920’s. Today Shiva has gone back to the formula that made them the
leading oil supplier in the 1950’s.
Mary is a nationally recognized artist and a popular art teacher. Her work
has been juried into several national and local (Chicago area) exhibits. She
has been interviewed on Martha Stewart satellite radio channel about the
business of art and is currently writing a book on the same subject. Her
students’ work has flourished in the creative atmosphere of her classes and
workshops.
The AFAF May Meeting will be held at the Antioch Upper Grade School on
800 Highview Drive, in the Art Room. The meeting begins at 6:30.
Hope to see you there!
